An accident involving the battery compartment on the Indian Navy's INS Sindhurakshak
(S63) Kilo-class submarine, docked at Visakhapatnam, has left one sailor dead. The crew of the submarine has conducted full repairs and the boat is reported to be fine -- it will shortly depart on deployment in the Indian Ocean. The Sindhurakshak
was commissioned in 1998 and was the second-last Kilo to be commissioned. The Navy has not yet released details of the sailor who tragically lost his life in today's accident. My condolences to the sailor's family and the Navy.
