Decorations For Siachen Pioneers Pilots

The government today awards the Late Major Chandra Shekhar Singh and Major Amit Mohindra India's third highest peacetime gallantry award, the Shaurya Chakra. The two officers were in a crash when their Cheetah helicopter went down after unloading supplies at the dangerously placed Bhim Post on the Saltoro massif flanking the Siachen glacier, the world's highest altitude battlefield. While Maj Singh was killed in the crash, Maj Mohindra was severely injured but survived.

I like the Tiranga icon on the page ....please keep it that way going forward , far classier than any of the other motifs you've had on your blog site.

Dear Shiv,

You are running a tidy blog. I serve in the IAF and have commented on few of your posts before. Pl keep up the good work. One suggestion though, if you may consider. "It does not do you any good by being edgy with your commentators, even when they are incorrect/improper/ outright ridiculous. Afterall any contribution to this blog, contrary view or otherwise adds value." Rahul R,s comment and your response being a case in point. I would like to appreciate Rahuls interest and knowledge on this subject. We can all be a little more generous with our praises and miserly with critique. Once again , all the best and keep the good work going.

Dear Mr Aroor,

Siachen Pioneers is an IAF unit and not an Army Aviation Unit. These wer the R&O Flight personnel. Of course both Army and the IAF fly the age old Cheetahs (maintained by HAL) which are failing more often. While everyone respects the horizontal soldier, it is time we took up the case for the still vertical soldiers. How about doing a piece on how the Indian bureaucracy has delayed replacements of the Cheetah by over 15 years past overdue? Regards,
