Indian army doesn't care for good things. They are waiting for more Russians garbage tin cans. They can't have enough of those.

Indian army is a bunch of bureaucrats wearing prim uniforms and dangling badges and passively operates legacy military equipment and infrastructure. They are not a modern combat fighting unit. Sadly.....

Apart from few T-90 type armor, I can't see any visible changes.

They could have adopted the latest Leopard 2A6's armor.

No sir
i think its not the mark-2 variant.
Turrets looks same as that of the mark-1.

Hi Shiv can you update with the trails results and how MK2 performed well rather then the older versions of Arjun. Will it really suit for the desert as well as in Hill region.Since the weight of the Arjun MK2 is consider by the Army as major Issue.

The Army needs to accept atleast 600 of the Arjuns Mk II into it's inventory. I think the DRDO has done a good job and it's about time we stop foreign procurement and encourage our National defence establishments.

We need to start being self-reliant, atleast to some extent.

The only way for India to make progress is for it to be divided into a number of states based on community,caste & religion . Homogenous countries make progress as is evident by the success of US , EU and China . Countries like India , Pakistan will continue to remain 3rd world in the forseeable future unless they are further divided .

Lori, I think the homogeneous parts of USA that is TN, AL, MI and LA have a lot of homogeneous inbred honkies and they need to be separated out of the USA to form the homogeneous Confederate States of America. Maybe they will do better.

Joy said...

@Lori...
And of course the rest who don't fit into the homogeneous mold can be sent to work at the plantations like the good old days. Excellent idea, no?

@ Lori
Did anyone ask you for advice on how we can become "1st world"? No right. Then could you save us all the burden of your expertise and go manage that debt mountain of yours first.

No need to give attention to fake / paid agents of PAK / Chins or a self hating - selfish jerk..

Arjun MK2 have most advance electronics in the region perhaps even compare to Russian, But it still need improvement in its design..

Heavy junk arjun mk2, waste of tax payers money. Instead go for abrams or israeli tanks.

Lori Geiger is probably Looser Mahmood sitting in islamabad, wetting his pants looking at the MK2. This is a typical paki tactic on cnn where they log on using western names, because they know as soon as they use a muslim name to quote paki agenda, every body jumps on them with anti piki vitiriol.

True but this Lori Geiger is hell bent on dividing Porkistan as well . Look at the last sentence in her comment . Americans hate us I know. They do NOT like dark skinned people.

I KNOW THIS MAY SOUND STUPID , BUT I DON'T THINK WE NEED OR CAN SPENDS MONEY/TIME ON REFINING ARJUN ANY LONGER.

WE SHOULD EITHER BUY MORE t-90S (A PROVEN PLATFORM) , REDESIGNED WITH MODERN TECHNOLOGIES TO REDUCE THE WEIGHT OR GO IN FOR JOINT PRODUCTION WITH JAPANESE MAIN BATTLE TANK , WITH IS NOT ONLY 44 TONS , BUT DESIGNED WITH MODERN WARFARE IN MIND , THIS WILL NOT ONLY MODERNIZE OUR PRODUCTION FACILITIES SINCE HITACHI AND MITSUBISHI ALREADY HAS A GOOD PRESENCE IN THE COUNTRY ,IT WILL FIRM UP THE TIES . SOMETHING BOTH COUNTRIES DESPERATELY NEED

WHILE AT A SAME TIME WE NEED A LIGHT TANK LIKE S-TANK FOR HIGH ALTITUDE PLUS IT CAN ALSO BE USED FOR CARRYING SAMS AND NAG MISSILES. BECAUSE NICMA IS BY ARMY'S ADMISSION IS USELESS.

OUR INCESSANT NEED FOR EVERY THINGS TO BE INDIGENOUS IS CAUSING US TO REINVENT THE WHEEL , DRAINING OUR POCKETS AND REDUCING OUT COMBAT POTENTIAL, WASTING VALUABLE TIME . FOR THE RECORDED THEY IS NOT A SINGLE COUNTRY IN THE WORLD THAT DOES EVERY THING ON ITS OWN INCLUDING USA .PLATFORMS ARE CHEAPER THAN SYSTEMS . WE NEED CONCENTRATE ON SYSTEMS AND MAINTENANCE.

MOD RECENTLY REFUSED HAL OFFER TO MAKE A PROP-TRAINER(BUYING IT COST 30CR MAKING COSTS 60CR) , BECAUSE SOMETHINGS ITS CHEAPER TO BUY THEN TO BUILD ,

AND LASTLY , THE LAST THING WE WANT TO ACHIEVE IS A STATUS OF MILITARIZED ECONOMY , CAUSE I AM PRETTY SURE WE DON'T HAVE STOMACH FOR GOING TO WAR JUST TO SELL OVER PRICE AIRPLANES

Why are the trials being held, if the excuse is already known - that the tanks are just too heavy for use by Indian Army.

No military equipment is without some shortcoming or a draw back and there is no ultimate weapon system it is not the Indian Army but the Armoured Corps people. Look at the tanks around the world the best possible and or available are accepted and gradually improved and upgraded from time to time that is why there are so many series of M-48, Abrams,T-series,Leopard,Merkava and the Chieftain (most useless and with maximum defects)yet the countries armed forces accept them and are proud of them we Indians have a phoren ka bana syndrome Arre bhai Akal se nakal karo (reverse engineering)remember Sqn ldr Keeler with a Gnat shot down star fighter F-104 because of inexpensive magnesium flares WE HAVE IT IN US LETS DO IT come on

i personaly fell that arjun tank is a dead project which is sucking poor taxpayer money of this country i am enmurating following reason why army did not want it
1> TOO MANY FOREIGN PARTENERS > FROM strategic point of view this so called indegenius tank import more than 70 percent of his key component like a german engine, israel LAHAT missile,french optics etc and needless to mention they all are american scycophants and USA is a traditon ally of pakistan don't forget what they do in 1971 war! so americans could choke our supply any time by forcing these countries. what will we do then ? reason could be anything americans are always overzealous to impose sanction lets say if we conduct a nuclear test in future or made a limited attack on pakistan what will we do then ?

second reason is very complex to understand i have no doubt that arjun is better tank than t90 but it comes with a weight penalty i am a huge fan of world war history and the father of armoured warfare has said mobility of a tank is a more important factor than armour and firepower one of the reason why tank like tiger fail to save germany second the advantage is just marginally ahead of t 90 beside army had used t series tank which simplyfy training and logistic problem after all supply is a important aspect of war so we should trust our highly competent leadership

@Chetan Chauhan...
with all due respects sir,i disagree with yor statements regarding the arjun.... even the american m1 abrams uses a rheinmetall main gun .... also it tips the scales at nearly 70 tons and still roams about in iraq and kuwait whose infrastructure i guess is not better than ours,so weight should not be a issue....all succesful modern MBTs weigh between 50-60 tons,the Arjun is no exception.
and regarding the ww2 tiger tank...it was outnumbered 36 to 1 by the shermans , even more by the T-34s...also they had no top cover at all so they got hit from all sides....on even playing fields they dessimated their adversaries...so the main deciding factor was overwhelming numerical superiority and aerial cover...

In an full scale indo pak conflict top cover shouldn't be an issue for us,,, so the T-90s should be enough but for a sino indian conflict this might not be the case....in such a scenario the T-90s are doomed...

Sad we cant even manufacture an engine after 35 yrs .. We are only good enough to serve some dum dum sitting in US of A . We send out half a million engineers a year.. Is there any one who can manufacture an engine ....
