An Indian Air Force MiG-29 crashed today in the western state of Gujarat after getting airborne from the Jamnagar air force base. The pilot ejected safely.
The last
MiG-29 to crash was in October 2011, in the Lahaul-Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh in India's north. Pilot Squadron Leader DS Tomar, who ejected, but couldn't found, was
declared dead 19 days after the crash.
The IAF's MiG-29 fleet is currently being upgraded, with the first three
arriving from Russia six months ago.
