IAF MiG-21 Bison Crashes, Pilot Killed

An Indian Air Force MiG-21 Bison fighter crashed this morning at the Western desert base in Uttarlai, Rajasthan, killing its Flt Lt-rank pilot. The aircraft was in its landing phase when it crashed.

Today's crash is the second in just over a month in the same area. On June 8, a MiG-21 took off from Uttarlai, experienced a flame-out, though the pilot ejected safely. In today's crash, the pilot was too close to the ground for any emergency action. The MiG-21, as you know, has the highest landing speed of any IAF fighter type.

RIP Flt Lt. And deepest condolences to his family.
