Fire Aboard Indian Submarine, 2 Officers Missing

The hits just keep on coming. The Indian Navy is now dealing with a second major accident involving a Kilo in the last six months. After the INS Sindhurakshak explosion that killed 18 personnel in August last year, its sister ship INS Sindhuratna experienced a serious gas leak in the battery compartment, activating the freon-based fire suppression system. While 7 sailors were air evacuated from the submarine, two officers -- a Lt Cdr and a Lt -- are still unaccounted for. A 15-member inspection team led by a Commodore from the Western Naval Command is in the process of conducting preliminary inspections. At this time, the submarine is fully surfaced and returning to Mumbai at reduced speed. Will post updates through the day. While sources in the navy say they fear the worst for the 2 missing officers, let's hope by some miracle that they've made it.
